Origin / Meaning of the name Lawrencium
Named in honour of Ernest O. Lawrence the inventor of the cyclotron which is a research instrument with which several new elements have been first produced.

Lawrencium classified as an element in the Actinide series as one of the "Rare Earth Elements" which can located in Group 3 elements of the Periodic Table and in the 6th and 7th periods. Lawrencium was discovered by Albert Ghiorso, Torbjorn Sikkeland, Almon Larsh and Robert M. Latimer in 1961 at the Berkeley Radiation Laboratory (now called Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) in the University of California.
