A radioactive transuranic element synthesized from californium. A transuranic element means an element with atoms heavier than those of Uranium with an atomic number greater than 92. Origin / Meaning of the name Lawrencium
Named in honour of Ernest O. Lawrence the inventor of the cyclotron which is a research instrument with which several new elements have been first produced.
